Hello,
I want to give my oppinion of the autoclutch assist.
When I started to play SRW it was the only assist I thought I needed as I don't have a clutchpedal with my steeringwheelset (Logitech DFGT).
Recently I turned it off to see the difference and to my amazement the cars become much easier to control.
Disadvantages for using autoclutch are:
- longer brake distances
- more chance for brakes to lock up when hard braking
- less grip when cornering
- cars have less power available when exiting a corner
- cars accelerate slower from the startline
- cars have an overall unstable feel
Disadvantages for NOT using autoclutch are:
- engine shuts down after a crash which mean you need longer to recover (unless you have a clutchpedal)
- the kart is very hard to get of the start line (unless you have a clutchpedal)
My point is that autoclutch is an assist but it makes driving much harder, especially for a newbie, so autoclutch being an assist is very misleading and people can think the game is harder than it actually is and turn them away.
The autoclutch feels like you have a gremlin in your car who is constantly pressing the clutch when you don't need it.

I use auto clutch , but its still usable even with the assist on , i use xbox controller and have assigned it to the LB button, i only use it when i start a race, then let the auto clutch handle the rest
Works fine for me

I also find if you deccelerate while changing gears it gives you a smoother change, as it gives the clutch time to wok

I agree on some parts, however I disagree on most.
- longer brake distances
- more chance for brakes to lock up when hard braking
- less grip when cornering
- cars have an overall unstable feel
I don't notice any of these. In fact, I find it giving a more stable feel.
- cars have less power available when exiting a corner
- cars accelerate slower from the startline
These are affected by the situations I describe below. They don't have less power though.
Autoclutch only works in these conditions (as far as I noticed):
- When starting from a stop, autoclutch works if your previous gear was neutral (N). It makes the clutch pedal be released slowly, so your engine doesn't shut off. You can prevent the long release by shifting into 2nd, and back in 1st. This way you can use your own clutch without the risk of the engine shutting off.
- When downshifting, the gas pedal is automatically pressed, so you don't have to do this manually. This makes downshifting and entering a corner a lot easier, as it brings the RPM back to the required amount.
I hope these descriptions and tips help! -

Auto-clutch doesn't affect stability or driving dynamics, only the clutch itself.
Advantages for auto-clutch:
-You don't stall.
-Blipping clutch on shifts, making downshifts smoother, preventing lock-ups while braking. For me this is a must have for cars with 500+ hp.
-Faster starts (with clutch not engaging to prevent stalling, you're putting more power on the road)
Disadvantages for auto-clutch:
-In some cars it makes shifting time a bit longer, reducing acceleration.
Auto-clutch is the only assist that's allowed at any place, any time, because not everybody have a clutch pedal. -

only want to add that autoclutch is helpfull on some cars more then others. There are cars that are quite good without autoclutch and there are cars which need autoclutch.
As described above u can set the autoclutch to a button to turn on and off at situations u will need it. or even let it on or off for some of the cars. Its all about feeling comfortable.
Some cars f.e. dont like it to downshift in 2nd gear while having clutch off - this will lock up the rearwheels sometimes. while clutch off some cars also can be used with clutch off but then need to high rpm shift down or low rpm shift down depends on the engine. So you need to try several things and see what will help to make the car feel better. :) -

Nevermind what I said, at the same time I turned off autoclutch I changed the throttle/brake response rates which caused me to drive better.

if autoclutch could be an advantage depends a lot on which car are you using..
without using the clutch you could have a lot of stability problems while braking and downshifting especially in old/vintage cars and with the one in which the downshift auto revving up is not configured... to avoid that you should just tap the accelerator while in neutral during the downshift, but that could be hard to do sometimes -
