Sunday Race Off 35: James38 Still Lonely, StuntmanMike24 Maximises Points

sro35.jpg

We return to Laguna Seca this week with our trusty Mitsubishi Evolution X’s which was met with some debate. Some say we should revert back to changing cars each week, others saying we should do multi-class races between the Evo and something else but with the new skillquant system in it’s infancy, it was felt best that we stick to what we know works for now whilst the new rule-set gets off the ground. The up-side to that decision of course is that it is a free car, so we found that there were more participants getting involved as well as the fact that the Evo provides some extra-close wheel to wheel, bumper to bumper racing. Whether you love the Evo or hate it, it is hard to ignore the quality of racing on show during these races as beginners and pro’s alike jostle for victory around such corners as the Corkscrew. A marvel to watch!

I was somewhat disappointed to see that James38 was still competing on his own in the SQ500-600 category despite almost a full change of participants on the RTTW top 14. It seems either nobody is committing to it, or we need to spread the word more to get more involvement at this level. James38 pottered around on his own with no pressure other than quite a few people watching him. Regardless of this, he still put up a good show with some solid lap times and a further $6 under his cap for sure.

In the SQ600-700 category, things looked a little more racy as supercar1 and Racecarfan led the pack, supercar1 taking a double win of RTTW and SRO in his impressive debut.  Racecarfan still leads the championship by a good margin however as his nearest competitor Urbanszki failed to start, falling to 4th place. Haul takes 2nd place in the championship whilst supercar1 props up the podium with all intents of challenging further it seems. Watch this space on that one.

The SQ700-800 category saw it’s fair share of thrills and spills as the grid number increased and ambitions of grandeur rose to another level. Lots of battle packs going on here but one victor came out of it in the form of MoraisGT, taking his maiden win in his maiden SRO. It is really good to see these guys competing at long last in the limelight of full streaming and commentary from Nofearc and Liam JenkinsDevilbevin leads the 700-800 category but it looks like he may be making the move between categories next week as his skillquant appears to be on the up. In any case, gymwhaley is hot on his heals just 3 points behind in the championship.

In the 800-900 category, xysme and Bolinhas had us all absolutely glued to our screens in their fantastic battle for the win, going all the way down to the final corner of the race. Bolinhas made a last effort move on xysme but could not slow the car down for the corner and ran wide, handing back the lead and win to xysme. Lots of respectful driving minus a couple of honest mistakes but all ended well for the two top racers. An absolute joy to watch. Championship standings-wise, these two look in a true reflection of the race, xysme leading with Bolinhas snapping at his heels. CrasHMF is not out of the picture yet though in 3rd.

Similar magic occurred in the SQ900-1000 category as Mr_jones83 and Johndaniels gave the spectators something to really chew on in their epic battle for 3rd position, whilst peli and tiagaoo made their getaway for 2nd and 1st. A disappointing race for DimitrisGiannopoulos though as he had topped the RTTW leaderboard but failed to muster some points in last night’s race. He continues to astound everyone with his handy keyboard skills. A solid effort for scjeremy, the reserve that finished in 5th place. Great job. Mrjones_83 takes the championship lead from Bil79 and tiagaoo storms into 3rd and challenges for 2nd. If he keeps up this kind of form, he will be giving Mrjones_83 a run for his money for the championship win.

And finally, the audience did not know where to look when watching the SQ1000-1100 race as there were so many close battles. Bandito vs. Simo911Redlineracer85arckeo72GCortese49 battles to name a few. One driver remained consistent however and that was the sheer pace of StuntmanMike24 whom raced home a relatively easy win compared to what drivers had to work for behind him. The championship standings have closed right up now and acerockolla’s 2 race off absence has cost him dearly as he now slips into 2nd place. vanPanther takes the lead despite his relatively average race off, pilotapazzo sits in 3rd whilst StuntmanMike24 now looks for more in 4th.

Another great SRO and no matter what car and track combo we get to take part in next week, it is good to know that we are going to become accustomed to this kind of racing from now on. Great job from Liam and Nofearc once again and we shall look forward to the next SRO.

In the Fantasy league, DimitriGiannopoulos finds better luck than on the racetrack, taking the win and the lead by scoring 12 points for correctly guessing StuntmanMike24Bandito and Freccianera’s positions. CrasHMF enters the competition with a great start, scoring 11 points for correctly guessing Bandito and GCortese49‘s finishing positions. Unfortunately,Daniel_C’s run of terrible luck runs deep as he only manages to pick up a single point for getting close to guessing vanPanther’s finishing position. Still – that is better than his all-out miss last week, he scored a big zero!

SRW wth?!?!?!?!?!

Again the main event starts at 22:00,do you guys realize that we are up for more then 13-15 H and then we have an 15 laps race at Laguna?!?!?!?!?!?

Why the 500-600 class starts at 18:00,what,you wanna say to me that the lower class cant start earlier or what????

If the majority of the drivers and the admins are from Europe, why are you pushing soooooooooooo hard that we have those races sooooooooooooooo late?

And this is not the first time we have those races that late, isn't SRW ?

Again the main event starts at 22:00

It looks to start about 9:44 from what I can see CET? It'll be over by just gone 10pm, not start. That's not too bad really. I'd happily race then.

What I meant is that now we have six races and because of that the 500-600 need to start at least at 17:00 or even earlier,to start a race at 21:44 is bad because is too late, why SRW do not put lets say the 1000-1100 at 20:00 and after that put the lower class, what I mean is they start with the class 500-600 then 600-700 then 700-800 then 900-1000 then.......ok,please SRW just put the 500-600 class at 17:00 CET and all will be fine so the 1000-1100 have the start of the race at 20:44 and not at 21:44,thank you

hmm, why the hell again Evo??? With over hundred cars available, we are "forced" to use the worst of all. Gee thx SRW... would like some explanation. I was hoping you choose Assen with GT2 or GT3 cars - yes all 3 of them, and drivers decide which one to drive.... but i guess SRW slowly runs out of ideas how to amuze us. Catching the evo boat arround circuits won´t help...

Assen would've been nice but the GTs would've been too expensive for some. A cheaper car, like the Toyota Supra, would've been better. It doesn't cost much or take long to get the necessary credits but maybe the entrants would take the SRO more serious if they had to buy a car for the RTTW.

what was wrong with old system? Evo was on like prerace...in this case till SQ800...from 800 onwards...the choosed car for the weekend. Surely drivers with 800+ have some vehicle in the range of few thousants credits!

About the Evo  B)

I didn't have sooooooooooooo muchhhhhhhhhhh fun and fight on the track like the SRO 34  whit the EVO in a long long time and I loved the car and the track too and I think Laguna will be fun for sure  :D

About the question if SRW could choose a car beside the EVO? Yes for sure but maybe when they saw how was the last SRO they wanted to do a replay of the good battle on the road  ;)

About Assen.......SRW for sure wanna push this track but how we all witnessed about the infamous sand traps, they maybe wanna first work on the sand traps and then do the races there  <_<

Why not three SQ groups instead of six but two cars per group (Evo and something else)? Everybody could choose the other car if they wanted to but nobody would be left out.

Main reason for choosing the Mitsubishi Evolution X again is that we are still in a phase of introducing Skillquant system to you and even though it had a great success last week, I believe there's a lot of work to be done to make sure that every Simraceway driver gets the message about doors to prizes being open for everyone now. That before we move back to cars that cost.

Other than that it's just a great car to race, continuously delivering great spectacles, every single week, right from the moment when it was introduced to the SRW Sunday Race-Offs. Using this occasion, I want to thank every driver that took part in these races!  :D

Why not Assen? Because I'm still monitoring the topic of it's sand and need to make sure that it's settled before we start using it in these races. By saying that I'm not confirming that we will modify it, but only letting you know that we're thinking way ahead. It's a very tricky topic. If it gets too forgiving, last chicane will immediately lose it's role and will become a constant cutting spot - to win time or make up for the lost time, etc. Then again, we cannot use any radical solution there like a tire wall, because the track owners wouldnt agree to that - it's a major visual change. Same goes for the sausage curbs on sandy areas.

Then why Laguna Seca? Because it never really had a proper Mitsubishi Evolution X race before, apart from the half-grid multicar race with Mazda 787. Now it will get 6 proper races and I stronly believe that each of them will be great  B)

Good idea...
