The first true superstar of the WRC era, the Lancia Stratos built on the success of its predecessor, the Fulvia, helping to establish a glorious rallying dynasty for the marque. To ensure it was homologated in time for the 1974 season, production of 500 Stradales (Italian for “road-going”) began in 1973. Sculpted by celebrated Italian designer Marcello Gandini, the Stratos’ roots can be traced back to the Stratos Zero concept car, which was exhibited at the Turin Motor Show in 1970. However the mud-slinging monster that eventually emerged to terrorize WRC rivals in the mid-70s bore little resemblance to its fantastical forebear. Although it retained its ultra-aerodynamic wedge-shaped profile, it now wore a distinctive, crescent-shaped wrap-around windshield to provide maximum driving visibility while, crucially, a mid-mounted 2.4-liter Dino Ferrari V6 was used in place of the Zero’s outdated Fulvia engine. Despite being detuned, the Stradale’s powerplant still produced a handy 190 bhp!

I love this car, one of the more difficult to drive but once you get it into that sweet spot it just keeps on giving, makes me smile it is so awesome!
