While the ACR-X sports the same 8.4-liter V10 as its road-going brethren, the addition of a low-restriction exhaust and a set of racing headers play their part in increasing its output to a sizeable 640 bhp. Meanwhile its track-tuned suspension, downforce-optimizing aerodynamic enhancements, and enforced diet which saw the snake shed over 120 lbs, resulted in it outperforming its production predecessor by as much as three seconds per lap during testing at Laguna Seca. Given its first competitive outing in July 2010 in the specially-created Dodge Viper Cup Series, the Dodge Viper ACR-X quickly established its track credentials, ensuring it added to the all-American supercar's short but significant racing reputation.
