Contesting the eighth season of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, Polestar Racing's #30 C30 DRIVe was campaigned by Robert Dahlgren. The 1.6-liter turbo, piloted by the Swede for the final eight rounds of the season, replaced the naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter C30 with which he had begun the campaign.
Dahlgren, twice runner-up in the Swedish Touring Car Championship with Volvo, had raced C30s in the WTCC in the previous three years, competing in each season's Race of UK and recording a highest position of twelfth. However 2011 would be the first time he would complete a full twelve-round campaign in what would be an evaluation year for the Swedish marque and Polestar Racing.
The difference between the results yielded by the C30 and the new, turbocharged C30 DRIVe were stark. At the wheel of the old car Dahlgren achieved only two top-ten placings, while the new one brought twelve such finishes, including a fourth place in Germany. He ended the season in 11th position with 72 points while, perhaps unsurprisingly with one car on the track and an emphasis on evaluation, Volvo concluded the campaign behind Chevrolet, BMW, and SEAT.
