This weekend sees a large field of GT and Production cars take on a once around the clock endurance race around the demanding Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales. There are 44 cars from 6 different categories, with vehicles ranging from the GT3 spec machines from Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Nissan and Porsche, all the way down to a trio of Fiat Abarth 500s entered in Class F Production.
Practice sessions have been run earlier today, with some seriously quick lap times being set thanks to a new track surface. Former DTM and V8 Supercars driver Maro Engel set the pace with a seriously quick 2:04.45 in the #1 Erebus Mercedes SLS AMG, whilst teammate Will Davison was second on the timesheets in the #63 car. Third quickest was the #23 Lamborghini Gallardo in the hands of David Russell - this car is running in Class B as it was converted to 2011 specifications for this event.
You can watch this event on the live stream found here - http://www.bathurst12hour.com.au/live/ - or you can listen to commentary from Radio Le Mans. On Saturday you can catch Qualifying and support races (Radical Cup, Improved Production and HQ Holdens), whilst on Sunday the main race starts at 6:15 am Australian eastern daylight savings time (you can find out what time the race starts in your time zone here).
